Be Pet-Prepared for the 4th of July

If your cat or dog is frightened by the sound of thunder, chances are they’ll be mortified by the sounds (and possibly sights) of firework displays. Even though we can appreciate your wanting to include companion animal in a holiday outing, do not take them to a fireworks display. Similarly, do not leave your pet outside and unattended in the days leading up to and including the Fourth; children and adults alike are known to set off fireworks in neighborhoods, even where such activity is prohibited by law. An errant bottle-rocket can cause your sweet pup or kitty not only moments of terror, but possibly serious injury. The best plan is to keep all companion animals indoors and as calm as possible. Check with your veterinarian for an appropriate plan to help decrease anxious responses, before the first firecracker is lit.

Have a Happy 4th to you and your pets!
